When you have children there are many things that you have to worry about and learn how to treat. When they are playing outside you have to worry about them cutting their knees when they fall to the pavement. You have to worry about them getting into poison ivy and treating the rash. You also have to worry about the many mosquito bites they are going to get.

Mosquitoes are the most annoying bugs in the world because they fly around in packs, make annoying buzzing noises in your ears, and leave behind bite marks that are painful and irritating. There are simple ways that you can treat these bites to make them more manageable for your child and to keep them from scratching them and making it worse.

The first thing you should do when your child has been bitten is to place ice cubes in an old rag and press it to the bite mark. This will help to control the swelling (though there may not be much) and to control the irritation. It will also help the child to feel slightly better and to pull their mind away from scratching it.

After a few minutes of using this make shift compress you should apply calamine lotion to the area. This will also help to stop the itching and the irritation. Make sure to apply it throughout the day.

If you do not have this lotion on hand you can make your own using baking soda and water. Combine the two ingredients until you have made a thick paste. Once completed you can apply the paste to the bite mark. It will have the same effect as the calamine lotion.

Sometimes our children are more sensitive to these nasty bites than what we might realize. You may need to give them some antihistamines or some Motrin or Advil to help with the swelling. If you are not sure what to get ask the pharmacist for the proper medication to use to treat mosquito bites that are more severe.

There are many different things that we can use that will help to keep the bugs away from us while we are trying to eat outside with our friends. Some will work efficiently while others will not do as well as we would hope.

It is fine to be able to walk outside around the neighborhood, play touch football with your kids and friends, or even to go swimming in the warm water. But all of that can be spoiled when there are deerflies, mosquitoes, and other bugs flying around our head trying to get at us anyway they can.

These bugs can ruin a perfectly good barbecue or keep us from having the ultimate pool party. Unless we were to take control and do something about them. It is possible to purchase items that are used to keep the bugs away and to kill them if they try to get anywhere near us.

Most of us hate applying bug repellant to our skin because it is usually not waterproof, it smells horrible, and is so foggy that sometimes we can get it in our mouths. So instead we look to other things that might work to ward off the bugs. After going to the store to find such a thing I discovered that there are many to use.

Candles

Some people will use citronella candles. These are small and great to have on your table outside. It helps to set a mood for the dinner and it works to keep the bugs away. The only problem with this is that there is usually not enough range for them to protect much of an area. So you would need quite a few to keep the bugs away from everyone and the food.

Torches

If you want to spice up the look of your yard and keep the bugs away then you put up decorated torches. These also contain a special ingredient that is used to keep the bugs away and they can light up your yard. Again though you will have to buy quite a few and they can get expensive.

Outdoor Bug Zapper

Your best bet would be to purchase an outdoor bug zapper. These are great because they help to attract the bugs – but only so that it can kill them. They can hang conveniently by the door and kill anything that is attracted to it. This helps to keep them away from you and prevent them from coming into the house.
