The Ford Mustang is one of the most famous muscle cars that was ever created. Throughout its long history the company has produced many versions of it and created special editions that have sold for thousands of dollars. The whole concept and design of the car began in 1962 with the creation of the first generation Mustang.

The first generation Mustang was the dawn of a new era for Ford and for the muscle cars. The model was first debuted in 1962 to the public as a two-seater car that was built with a V4 mid-engine. In October of 1963 the Mustang II was shown and designed as a four-seater car with a front engine and went on sale only six months later. The consumers loved the look that the car had to offer and it soon rivaled that of the Corvette.

The first-gen Mustang was built with the design of a unibody structure and was laid over a wheelbase that was 108 inches and had the length of 181.6 inches. Ford was forced to use similar parts from the Ford Falcon in order to save money. These parts included the rear suspension and double wishbone coil spring.

Because of this the front section of the car was longer then normal and protruded farther into the back giving the car a longer hood and lower roof. The design was used to save the company money – but in the end it was what made it such a great car and made it unique. Along with this design the car was fitted with the classic running horse set on the grille and the side scallops set on the side of the car.

It was equipped with a 2.8 liter OHV straight six engine that was only able to push out 101 horsepower. Over time it was upgraded to the 3.3 liter before it stopped at the 4.7 liter – which was able to push out 220 HP. The three speed manual transmission was standard with each engine that it was fitted with.

It did not take long for the Mustang to make an impact on the world and to become popular among consumers around the world. Throughout Ford Mustang history it has only improved and even now is very popular among the older and younger generation of drivers.
