Acid reflux is a disease that causes heartburn. This symptom is caused when the acid in the stomach that is used to break up the food travels back up the esophagus. This causes the chest and throat to burn painfully and for some people that pain can be unbearable.

There are many things that can cause this condition – but one of the more common has to do with the food that we consume. That is why many doctors will place acid reflux patients on a special diet to avoid or control the symptoms.
