Acid reflux disease is a medical condition that many of us are forced to deal with. IF we’re lucky we will have mild symptoms that will easily go away when we take the usual antacid medicine. Those of us who are not so lucky though will be forced to deal with the symptoms and problems of this condition on a regular basis.

Unfortunately when the problem has become this bad and hard to deal with taking antacids is not enough for many of us. That is when we turn to stronger medicines or natural remedies that will help to take care of the problem for us. One of the biggest methods that we turn to is a proper acid reflux diet. In other words we eat foods that will help to make the problem easier to handle.

But are you eating the right foods? Many of us have been told what to eat or drink and which one to stay away from when we have this condition. But how do you know that this is right? It’s time to learn exactly what foods will help and what foods do not make any difference at all.

Milk

Many people have been told over the years that drinking milk will help to lessen the severity of the acid reflux symptoms before you try to go to sleep. What most people do not know is that this will actually cause acid reflux to become worse during your sleep.

People who eat too much during dinner will have an extra amount of stomach acid. While drinking milk can help you to feel better after this big dinner to avoid the symptoms during this time it will eventually cause the secretion of more stomach acids later on in the night. Thus creating acid reflux to flare up. To fix this eat a small dinner and a few crackers or a light snack before you sleep.

Coffee, Spicy Food, and Fruits

For the longest time we have been told that spicy foods, coffee, and fruits that are high in acid should be avoided if we don’t wish to have any problems with this medical condition. A study performed at the Stanford University in 2006 proved that these foods are not related to acid reflux in any way and cannot in fact cause acid reflux symptoms or problems of any kinds.

Before we do anything to treat acid reflux we should contact our personal physician and talk with them about it. They can inform us what foods we should eat or avoid and will give us medicine to help us deal with the problem.
