October has been designated as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’. Unfortunately few of us remember this or even pay any mind to it. Breast cancer is a deadly disease that afflicts close to 200,000 women every year. While some are able to beat it back – but the majority of these woman of every age are not able to fight it off and it takes them.

The only way that we are able to truly support these women and the research that is being put forth to find a cure and better treatment is to show them we care and to donate money to the organization for breast cancer research. Every year the Susan G. Komen foundation puts together a 5k, 10k, marathon, and ultra marathon races. Millions of cancer survivors and relatives of cancer patients come together and show their support.

There are some women that are not able to make it to these races because they are not in the area and have no way of getting to it. Others have the ability to go to these races – but feel that they want to do more. If you have this desire than you should consider putting together a breast cancer fundraiser.

You can show your support in your town and bring women of all ages together by throwing a fundraiser. At this fundraiser you can bring some valuable information about what breast cancer is and how it can affect millions of women every year. Try to find a woman who is struggling with breast cancer or who has overcome it to speak to the other women. She can share her battles and implore them to receive regular screening with their doctors in order to catch any signs of the cancer early.

There are dozens of fundraising activities that you can have and of course there must be refreshments. The best way to raise money is to create special items that people will want to buy. You can sell pins, hats, and shirts with the symbol of breast cancer awareness on it. Or you can be creative and create gloves, scarves, and other items that have been hand knitted and have the symbol stitched into it. All of the proceeds can go to breast cancer research.

With the help of friends and family you can have the ability to raise awareness of breast cancer to the women in your area. Help to show them how important it is receive regular examinations and to help and support others who suffer from this deadly disease.
