The basement is a great feature to have in any home that you might live in. For some people it is a large storage area for extra boxes and things that they do not want to find a place for around the home. For others it is a great space to be able to use when you want a place to play video games or a space for the kids to run around and play all day long.

This means that you will have to finish the room. This is a long process and it will require for you to add a bit of color and flare. What better way to accomplish this than by painting the basement walls? This is affordable if you do it the right way.

The first thing that you are going to have to do is look at each of the walls and make sure that none of them have leaks of any kind. Do you see water marks or mold along the walls? If you do try to find the source of the problem and repair it. Once that is done you will be able to apply the waterproof primer.

Next you need to go to the store and pick out the color that you love. Try to choose something that is light and neutral. That way the room can be used by anyone. Dark colors can be fun – but in a room with no natural light it can be a bit suffocating and annoying. Especially for kids.

When the primer has been given at least a day to dry you will be able to roll on the paint. Make sure that this is waterproof and that you apply it on evenly. Let the first coat dry completely and than you will be able to apply the second coat to the basement walls. You might have to apply two or three coats before you are happy with the result.
