Migraine headaches is a common ailment that many people face. They are different from the average headaches that we can experience because they are much more painful and can last for longer period of times. People as young as six years old can suffer from migraines – but it is more commonly found in adults.
Exactly what causes a migraine headache is not know. Many health experts differ on this subject because they believe that people can experience the pain associated with this problem in different ways and at different extremes. It is possible for people to have migraines that are caused by other more serious diseases or infections – but this is rare.
The more likely cause of migraine headaches are from the protective mechanism in someone that is responding to an external environmental distress. In other words different types of foods, heat, the lack of sleep, lack of food, and stress can stimulate them. Other people might have them because their brother, mother, or other close relative suffers from them as well.
Migraines are often divided into two categories; primary and secondary. Primary migraines are not caused by bacteria, viruses, and other organisms that may be affecting a person’s organs or other internal structures. The most common types of migraines that are categorized as primary include; tension, rebound, and cluster. Secondary migraines are caused by a disease or health problem that is affecting other parts of the body.
People who experience this problem on a common basis will usually take specific medication that is prescribed to them by their doctor or is bought over the counter. Unfortunately this medication may not always work.
It is best for them to avoid strenuous activity and to lie down in a dark and quiet room. Too much light and sound can aggravate the problem and cause the pain to become much worse. Not only will people suffering from migraines have a sensitivity to light and sounds – but they may also have blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.
