There are a number of steps that you will have to take when you are trying to lose weight. The most important is to follow a healthy eating plan that will speed up your metabolism and allow you to have more energy through the day. The next important thing is to follow a regular work out routine that will tone you up and target the fat so that it will melt away.
For most of us those are the biggest concerns that we have and we do our best to fit it into our busy lifestyle. What we do not realize is that we are actually hurting ourselves during this process because we are not able to get the sleep that is needed to go throughout the day without feeling sluggish. There is a huge connection between sleep deprivation and weight loss.
Health experts state that people should be getting at least eight hours of sleep every night in order to keep themselves from relying on caffeine and junk food that gives us spurts of energy through the day. Consuming these foods will give us unhealthy fats and calories and cause us to gain weight quickly. It will also keep us from falling asleep at night because we consume them throughout the entire day.
Another problem that occurs from getting little to no sleep is in the production of two important hormones, ghrelin and leptin. The ghrelin is used to tell us when we are hungry so that we will eat when needed. The leptin is used to tell us when we have had enough so that we stop eating.
When you do not get enough sleep there will be a lot more of the ghrelin in your body and a lot less of the leptin. This will cause you to feel hungry all the time the next day. You might think that your body is naturally hungry and so will continue to eat what you normally would. This only causes you to gain weight and to over eat. It also might upset your stomach because your body is not telling you when to stop.
Do yourself and your body a favor and understand the importance of sleep and try hard to reach that eight hour goal! To lose the weight and have a healthy body you must make that sacrifice and get the sleep that you and your body crave.
