During a construction project there are a ton of things that are going on. There are some people who will do the manual labor, others that will bring the supplies, and other that will manage it all. One of the most involved jobs that is essential to running a project is the accounting end of it all.

The person who keeps track of the finances is important. It is up to them to make sure that they do not go over the budget and that they are able to use the money that the investors gave them wisely. Any minor miscalculation could potentially hurt not just the project that they are working on – but also the entire company.

There are various levels to this job – which is why more than one person works to do it all. It is far too great a job for one single person, unless it is a small company and a small project that is being done.

The most basic position is the project accountant. With this career you could make as much as $80,000 in one year. In order to do this you have to have an accountant degree. This is pretty easy. All you have to do is keep track of the budget and put together ledgers.

The controller is the one that a lot of people look to when paycheck time rolls around. It is the job of this person to keep track of what everyone is getting paid. It is also their job to pay all of the necessary bills. Without this guy vendors would not be able to deliver the supplies needed to complete the project.

Chief financial officer is the highest you can be when looking for a construction accounting career. This is the one that everyone will go to and you can make up to $100,000 every year doing it. Not only do you oversee everyone – but you run audits and manage the taxes and monitor investments.
