Kids love to be able to find ways in which they are able to express themselves. One of the best ways that they are able to do that is to create something with the supplies that you have around the home. One of the best things to make all year round are fun camping lights.

Camping is something that most families enjoy to do with each other even if all you are doing is pitching a tent in the back yard. With the right lantern you will be able to see everything that is going on around you. All you need to do this is find a soda can, coffee can, or something similar to both of these.

Find a big, empty can and punch holes into the sides using only a nail and hammer. The holes have to be two inches apart and set above the bottom of the can. Now find a craft knife and cut out a few slits on the sides of it. The slits need to be a half an inch from the highest and a half an inch faraway from the base. All of them must also be a half an inch apart from each other.

Once the slits have been made you need to cut a large enough opening on just one side or on the top of the can. This will give you plenty of room to place the small votive candle inside of it. We suggest a votive candle because it is small, is set in a base of its own, and does not take that long to burn. It is also much cheaper to buy.

Now use a match to ignite the DIY camping light and watch how it glows. Make sure to place it on a stable surface or hang it up from something. Eventually it will go out – but you can make a few to put around the yard.
