Everyone makes fun of me because I was home schooled all the way from kindergarten to graduation. Their first thought is that I am sheltered and do not understand how to interact socially with other people. After all I grew up in a classroom of only five people so how could I possible know how to talk to a complete stranger?

The funny thing is that I was able to experience so much more than anyone in public school. One of the best things about being home schooled is the freedom that you have. I was taught by my mom and yes I went through a ‘real’ school and got a ‘real’ diploma! However, I wasn’t restricted on how many hours I had to sit down a learn and what months we could get off.

Growing up I have lived in four different states, all along the east coast. I have been to visit historical sites and cities that include; Washington D.C., Gettysburg, Arlington, and St. Augustine. I have also been to both Canada and Japan and made friends of all sorts. The experience of traveling and seeing new places and doing new things is a wonderful feeling.

Now that I am older I don’t always have the time or money to make a road trip across the country or to visit all of the cities that I love. However, it doesn’t stop me from making a list of the things that I would love to do when my own daughter is older.

I will bring her to various places that will spark her imagination and give her an open view of the world around her. She will go on a boat trip across the sea and possible even go scuba diving and see the world that lies beneath the water. Make sure that your kids can explore and have an interest of the nature surrounding them.
