Many individuals will use shaggy rugs in their bedrooms as a way to brighten the space and to make it appear more colorful or to enhance the theme that was produced. You will make your own special rug.

Producing a cotton shag rug is not an easy process – but neither is it overly difficult. It is made of weave and heavy fabric that helps to make it lasting. The heavy cotton or rug yarn is what you will use to create the shaggy effect. The fabric you choose should be knit or woven into narrow strips of ¼” wide and 3” long.

You will be able to discover the rug yarn and the burlap back from most fabric store. Make sure to shop round for the best deals and the perfect colors to utilize in your home. Smaller rugs only require one yard of cloth. For extensive ones you should measure the space you need it to cover and sew together one large strip of yards together.

Wash the backing and iron it out so that it is smooth. When it is flat you will be able to measure and cut it to the proper size. Be sure that the hem is at least one inch longer in the width and hem. Fold the hem underneath ½’ twice and stitch it around each of the edges. Begin at one border and hold down the burlap.

With your other hand, you want to be holding the hook on the top and set it down into the burlap. Every square of the cotton shaggy rug weave has to be one stitch. Tightly hold the yarn strips below the burlap and take hold of one strip in the center of the hook. Now pull the loop all the way through. Take hold of the ends of the strip and pull it all the way through the loop. Pull it tight until a knot is formed.
