Cell phone are becoming so popular that many people are getting rid of their land line phones because they never use it. Some parents are even giving one to their young kids so that they can communicate with them whenever they want. Having a cell phone is easy – but trying to choose a cell phone provider can be one of the hardest decisions we have to make.

Affordability

The first thing you need to consider is how much you are going to pay on a monthly basis. Talk to the top companies (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, etc.) and compare the monthly plans and any extra fees. For example, some people might choose AT&T over Sprint because they offer rollback minutes. This keeps people from constantly going over their minutes and paying double each month.

Coverage

Not all providers cover every inch of the United States. If you live in a highly populated area than most likely you can have your choice of any company you want. However, if you live in a small town surrounded by nothing but wooded area and hills than you might have a choice of two or three. Find out what covers your area and who gives off the best signal.

Special Phones And Features

Because cell phones are so popular companies are constantly coming out with better phones and features. Do some research on the most popular smartphones or flip phones on the market. When you find the one you like look at who makes it.

Also consider special features. One of the most common is the new ‘favorite friends’ list. This allows you to save anywhere between five to ten people into this list and call them without using your minutes. Usually this feature is only good when you call someone who uses the same cell phone provider as you.
