The kitchen is one of the more practical rooms in the entire home. It is where we cook our meals and entertain our guests. Everything in there serves an important purpose. The refrigerator stores the food, the stove and microwave cook it, and the cabinets hold the dishes. Even the trash can serves an important purpose.

Although every item is important we also want to make sure that it looks good and matches the them we chose to use. This includes the trash can – but it can be hard to find the one that we wish to use. The best way to do this is to identify the different types to choose from.

Wood

The wood trash can is not a very common choice – but it looks great in country and contemporary kitchens. These are durable and solid and do not scratch or break easily. They are usually very thick and have a simple handle on the top of the lid that allows people to open and close it easily. The biggest downside to this is that it can be difficult to keep clean.

If your trash bag leaks and you do not realize it than you are risking the growth of mold and mildew. While this can be removed from the wood it requires a long bath and a soak in the sun. Both of these elements can damage and warp the wood beyond repair.

Stainless Steel

More and more homeowners are using stainless steel appliances in their kitchens because of how it looks. It is a simple material that goes perfect in modern and contemporary kitchens. These are some of the easiest to keep clean and help to trap the odors under its thick lid. The downside to this is that it can be scratched very easily.

Plastic

The last choice is the plastic trash can. This is the most common choice because of how inexpensive it is. These come in the most styles and can be as large or small as you need it to be. It is simple to clean – but it doesn’t last long. The plastic parts can break easily.
