There are many different types of portable heaters that are used to keep us warm when we need them the most. Some can be used easily and safely within the house while others are best suited for outdoor use. One of the most commonly used is the portable kerosene heater.

This portable heater is used more often outside when people are out camping or maybe even ice fishing. It helps to provide them with the warmth that they need when a fire is not enough. Before you use one of these it is important that you understand how dangerous they might be and how to safely use them.

  • It is possible to use them indoors – but this is usually only done when a person as lost power during the winter season and needs a way to keep them and their family warm. This is rare though because the heater uses gases that could be potentially harmful when they are not in a well ventilated area.
  • The most important safety rule that you should always follow with these is to read the directions that they come with. Each heater brand is built differently and it is important that you understand how they work.
  • If you were given someone‚Äôs heater to use or bought one that was used you need to first make sure that there are no problems with it before using it. Just one thing wrong could be dangerous and potentially start a fire.
  • Make sure that the portable kerosene heater is built with an emergency shut off button. This is important to use if it should ever fall over. When it falls you run the risk of it catching something on fire.
  • Only use the fuel that the directions tell you to use.
  • You should never have it next to curtains, clothes, or bed sheets because they can catch on fire when you least expect it. Also keep it away from pets and children.
