When it comes to parenting there are many things that we have to overcome that pertains to our children. It is our job to make sure that they listen to what we are saying, that they obey, that they learn about the world around them, and that they are safe at all times. This is made more difficult when they are trying to challenge everything we say and do at every turn.

They don’t call them the terrible twos for nothing, right? It is around this time that they become more stubborn then normal and one of the many battles we have to contend with is when and how to put them to bed. One of the best things you can do is to tuck them in, give them hugs and kisses, tell them you love them, and give them their favorite stuffed animal.

However, this is not always going to work and for some kids they will challenge this till they are blue in the face. Every child is different in what they will or will not respond to. Some parents will try to fight them on it and will repeatedly go into their room and lay them on the bed until the child gets bored. The parent will be doing this every night or maybe not as frequently.

Some parents feel that it is best to let go in once and if that does not work then to let them cry it out. This will show the child that they are being serious and they can learn to go to bed when they are told. Before doing this make sure that your child is not scared in anyway. Give them a nightlight and make sure there are no strange shadows on the wall.

One of the worst things that you can do is to let them sleep wherever they want to. Some parents will let them sleep with them or on the couch. As long as the child falls asleep so they can sleep they are fine. But when they try to eventually put them to sleep in their own room they are going to have a hard time with this. This will only increase the bedtime battle and make things much harder on you the parent.
