For some people it can be hard to find the right migraine medication that works best for them. They may have a more difficult time using the over the counter products because they may not be strong enough. If this is so then they might need to speak with their doctor and request a prescription of something stronger and more effective.

People who have to deal with this problem on a regular basis should consider using preventive migraine medication. This should be used when they feel a migraine coming on and wish to stop it before the pain begins. This helps them to avoid the pain altogether and to not disrupt what they are doing at the time.

When taking medication is not enough you should simply lie down and try to sleep. Make sure that the room is completely dark and that there is no noise. Both of these can aggravate the pain and make it difficult to alleviate it. Also use a cold compress and place it on your forehead until the pain subsides.
