Acne is something that many of us have to go through when we are teenagers. It is a right of passage and a part of going through puberty. Though there are many great things that happen during this time it seems that there are a few negative things that we must have to endure as well.

There are a lucky few who do not have to worry about this during this time due to having great skin or genetics. But that doesn’t mean that we will never have to worry about it in our life. Some people skate through puberty with one or two pimples until they reach adulthood and then they are bombarded by it all the time. Research from the MayoClinic suggests this could all be related to hormones.

Adult acne is becoming more and more popular throughout the world and we are all clueless as to how it is happening. Many of us were under the illusion that once we left high school and all of puberty we would never have to worry about it. But this is not true. In fact for some people adult acne can be much harder to handle then teen acne.

Teen acne is caused by the hormonal imbalance of the body during the time of puberty that is causing the bodies to change and is also affecting their skin. This imbalance is creating oils to surface to the top of the skin and thus resulting in acne all over their face and sometimes their back.

When you are an adult it can sometimes be an enigma to know exactly what is causing the acne to surface. For some people it is still caused by incredibly oily skin. But there are a select few who have dry skin – but still seem to suffer from it. This makes it difficult for them to use the normal over the counter medicines because they are made to dry out the affected areas.

Also people who suffer from adult acne are at a higher risk for having it much worse then they would have in high school. This is mainly because they do not always treat it right away because they do not feel it is always necessary. They do not have the social pressure to avoid humiliation that they can cause when in high school. Because of this many adults will suffer from acne scars that can occur after they have waited so long to treat the problem.
