Cats make some of the best pets because they love to cuddle and they can practically take care of themselves. They are also one of the laziest animals that you will ever run across. Many cats spend their days eating and lazing around in the sunlight and cleaning themselves.

Unlike dogs they do not care to run around outside or even in the home unless someone is going to play with them. Because of this they will become fat and overweight. You don’t want this to happen to your cat because it can hurt their bodies and put them at risk for more serious health problems. Use these helpful tips to prevent your cat from gaining unnecessary pounds.

Food Control

One of the best things that you could do is to monitor the amount of food they are eating. Try to purchase food that is healthy for their bodies and give small amount to them three or four times a day. Giving your pet snacks is not a bad thing – but don’t do it too often. Only give it to them when they have done something that makes them deserving of it.

I know that many of us like to share our food with cats when they look at us with that sad face. They put the guilt trip on us and we fall for it every time. This needs to stop because all it is doing is giving your cat fat it doesn’t need.

It might be weird to put your cat on a leash and walk them around the neighborhood – but if dogs can do it why not them? You can purchase special leashes and harnesses for your cat to go on walks together. You might have to ease them into this transition because some cats do not like the leashes.

Your cat is not the only thing that needs to get up and move around every once in awhile. Buy some fun cat toys that you think they will enjoy and that maybe have some bells on the end of it. Many of these toys have strings attached to them so that you can dangle it over their heads and make them try to catch it. Cats go crazy for these games.
