Depression is a mental health condition that many people will go through and that can be caused by a death in the family, a tragic accident, or physical abuse. There are different forms of depression and also treatments that people can use – which will help to fight it off. Unfortunately not everyone is able to overcome this problem easily.

Much research has been done on the subject of depression and how exactly it can affect people. This research has shown that a person will choose to not eat or interact with other people. They might also turn to other substances to drown their sorrows like drugs or alcohol. It also shows that depression can be hard on a person’s heart and put them at risk for heart disease.

While the research for this connection is not yet conclusive many doctors still believe that depression is able to hurt the heart even if the person was once very healthy. There are many ways in which this mental disorder can put such a heavy strain on someone’s heart. The main reason being the lack of personal care that the people have.

Most will eat little amounts of food or even go days without eating anything at all. This causes them to lose weight dramatically and puts them at a high risk for heart disease. On the other hand you have people who turn to food to cover their feelings and will eat large amounts of food and gain a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Obesity is another factor in heart disease.

One less common cause is the amount of C-reactive protein a depressed person’s mind might have. This substance will increase their risk of suffering from heart disease. Also depression seems to cause the heart to become weaker and the blood cells to clump together. The sooner these people are able to find the right depression treatment that will work for them the sooner they can heal both their mind and their heart.
