Laughter is medicine for the soul! That is what some people say – but how true is this statement? Research actually shows that laughter not just puts us in a good mood – but also helps to increase the defenses of the immune system, increase the ability for someone to handle pain, and has the ability to reduce cravings for food.

But that is not all it can do. When you are having a stressful day and need something that is going to get you back on track all you need are a few funny jokes. The research also showed that it has the ability de-stress someone in many ways.

When we laugh our bodies reduce the level of the hormones cortical, dopamine, and adrenaline. These are the common types of hormones that cause stress. Instead they are replaced with endorphins and neurotransmitters. Laughing also has the ability to increase how well T cells are able to function and number of antibody cells our bodies produce.

Laughter is something that not only makes us smile – but also exercises the diaphragm, allows the abs to contract, and gives the shoulders a good workout. This works out your muscles and allows them to relax when you are finished.

It also provides us with a distraction and a much welcome one at that. It allows you to take the focus from the anger, stress, guilt, and hard emotions that you are going through that the time. Instead it allows you to put things into perspective and to clear your mind. This allows you to start thinking a bit positively and understand how to handle things.

The next time that you are feeling stressed out or having a hard day at work you should find a few jokes that will make you smile. Try to find some clean or even dirty jokes that are sure to put a smile on your face and relieve some tension.
