As with any type of medical treatment that is performed there are certain risks involved. Microdermabrasion has similar risks and side effects that must be considered before choosing to use it. We have listed many side effects that can be expected – but it is best to discuss this further with your doctor.

Statistics show that the majority of patients who have undergone microdermabrasion do not suffer from any side effects. Those who do will usually experience some of the more mild side effects that will not last for a long period of time. These common side effects will usually occur on the face and include; redness, itching, dry skin, and flaking.

You may confuse these symptoms with a sun burn. They will normally leave within a few days. The skin may flake for a whole week – but this is necessary and a big part of the healing process for the skin. Many of the side effects caused by microdermabrasion is because the patient’s new skin has become ultra sensitive.

People who use microdermabrasion to treat acne scars will notice spots on their face that will are temporary. This is very natural and is part of the exfoliating process. During this process the pores are removing the bacteria that causes the acne.

Microdermabrasion Risks

Along with a few side effects are certain health risks that can occur if the medical procedure is not performed correctly. Because of this it is important that you find a physician who has a good reputation of doing the job right and you can see the successful treatments that they have performed. The risks are:

  • Infection
  • Microdermabrasion crystals falling in the eyes
  • Breathing in microdermabrasion crystals

When the microdermabrasion crystals enter the eyes they can cause irritation that can be uncomfortable. However, this is not dangerous to the person.
